For over 128 years, Raffles Hotel has been a cornerstone of Perth’s hospitality scene, evolving from a humble riverside inn into a renowned destination. First licensed in 1896 as the Canning Bridge Hotel, it was transformed in 1937 with an iconic Art Deco redesign by architect William G. Bennett, inspired by its namesake in Singapore.
The hotel’s beer garden, one of Australia’s earliest, quickly became a beloved gathering place, offering scenic river views, lush lawns, and an electric atmosphere. By the 1980s, Raffles had cemented its status as a live music powerhouse, hosting legendary acts like AC/DC, The Angels, and Divinyls, with Bon Scott himself a regular patron.
Despite facing demolition in the 1990s, community passion ensured its survival, keeping Raffles a vibrant waterfront icon. Today, its rich history, prime location, and lively atmosphere continue to make it a favourite for locals and visitors alike.
A pub with a past. A destination for the future.
